SOFTWARE SALES TRACKER - RELEASE II
READ-ME.DOC - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
SETTING YOUR SYSTEM FOR A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF OPEN FILES
VERY IMPORTANT! If you wish to "try" this program before doing a "full"
installation by using INSTALL.EXE, it is necessary to set your CONFIG.SYS
Boot-Up file so that it contains the following command line...,
FILES = 25 (or more - within reason)
MEMORY REQUIREMENTS
If you run SST and get an ERROR MESSAGE which looks something like, "Error
07 in modual SST3 at address 408B:15C6", the "07" Error code means there
was an "Out Of Memory" error (there is a whole page about error code
definations in the instruction manual SST.DOC).
This would mean that you have less than the 500k of FREE RAM available,
which is about the amount that SST needs to operate (without EMS). Memory
Resident programs are usually the cause of this problem. Run either of
these MS-DOS files to check for free (lower) RAM memory: MEM.EXE or
CHKDSK.EXE. If you find that you have less than 500k of the lower 640k
of RAM available, then remove some Memory Resident programs or unnecessary
Device Drivers to free up more space.
Another Option:
If you have a 386 or 486 (or newer) computer, set up your machine to use
at least 1 meg of "EMS" (Extended Memory) by installing "EMM386" in your
CONFIG.SYS file (see MS/DOS Manual - EMM386). Use of EMS will add speed
to SST, and will allow it to use about 100k LESS of the lower 640k RAM.
NEW KIND OF DATA FILE
Data files created with the older "SOFTWARE SALES TRACKER" (Original)
are NOT compatible with this new "SST -II" program.
USING OUR SAMPLE DATA FILES
If you have never used this program before, and are just "checking it out"
to see if it does what you want, then answer "Y" (for YES) when asked if
you want to "USE THE SAMPLE DATA FILES?". A "yes" answer will provide you
with a couple of demo data files which show many of the features of this
program, and save YOU the time and trouble of entering your own data just
to "try" this program.
